The People of Ultra Shine

Ultra Shine believes that “If you can’t be replaced, you can’t be promoted.” In an ever evolving industry and growing company, this means that our leaders must strive for the same growth and evolution. To grow our business, we need to continuously be looking for and mentoring the next leaders who will take our current leaders' place as they rise through the ranks. This fosters an environment that emphasizes collaboration over competition. The amazing team at Ultra Shine knows what it means to be working together towards a common goal, making our company “Shine”.

Today we wanted to take you on the leadership  journeys of  five of our many exceptional team members. Get ready to meet Martyna, Tom, Ellie, Khurram and Marcelo.

What a transformation. Martyna started  with Ultra Shine as a cleaner in 2015 and has worked her way to her most recent position as our Operations Manager.  She is a well-rounded member of the Ultra Shine team with knowledge she has gained through her many achievements. Martyna has always been the go-to gal. If there was a question Martyna had the answer, or at least knew how to find it. Her team members have always been able to count on her. No matter what is thrown at her, Martyna gets it done. Who better to take on the role of Operations Manager, bridging the gap between operations, front line staff and our customers than someone who has excelled in each of her previous positions and built an understanding of the individual needs of each area through that experience. I can’t think of one, can you?

We like to say Tom is in a league of his own,since he is truly one of a kind. With over 30 years of experience in the janitorial industry, with specialty in large office towers, public school divisions, post secondary education institutions, shopping centers, health care facilities and railway yards, Tom walks the talk every single day. Staff laugh while recalling on a time when Tom hopped into a shower in leather shoes and dress clothes to train them on the use of a new cleaning product. That’s just one example of his willingness to get his hands dirty … or wet, to ensure our employees from front line staff to supervisors have the knowledge required to safely and effectively use the tools at their disposal. When we talk about leading by example, that’s Tom. Joining Ultra Shine as the Operations Manager for Calgary and Surrounding Areas, to the General Manager of Calgary and Surrounding Areas and promoted once again to Director of Operations for British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, Tom has certainly earned his most recent promotion to Ultra Shines’ Vice President. Tom embodies what it means to lead a team to success.

Starting with Ultra Shine as a receptionist in the summer of 2018, Ellie has certainly grown with the company.  Dipping her toes in the water as sales support early on, she has continuously grown into bigger roles within sales and now holds the title of Marketing Manager. Early on at Ultra Shine her commitment and dedication did not go unnoticed.  She not only understands Ultra Shine’s vision for continuous improvement within the commercial cleaning industry, but believes knowledge is power, and what better way to learn what it truly takes to clean a customer's facility than to grab a spray bottle and do it yourself, and that’s exactly what she did. For months she would leave the office once a week to put on a uniform and head over to a customer site to clean their facility. Talk about doing whatever it takes to get the job done. The President of Ultra Shine recalls the time during her first holiday season with the company when a mix up happened, and a seasonal thank you gift for an important customer in Fort McMurray had not been shipped. Without even skipping a beat Ellie volunteered to make the 6 hour drive up (on the winter roads we might add) to hand deliver the items. That’s Ellie. Ultra Shine’s Sweetheart. Always there to lend a helping hand and spread smiles and positivity around the office. We couldn’t think of someone better to be the head of marketing and share what Ultra Shine is all about.

Khurram has always been the man with the plan and not just plan A. He has plan B, plan C and a back up plan ready to go. Starting out as a cleaner with Ultra Shine in 2013 and taking on more and more responsibility until now in his current role as the Manager of Standards & Services, Khurram has always been a valued member of the Ultra Shine team. His current position? It was created just for him. Khurram’s strengths were noticed and we knew that we had to find a way to harness the immense value he could offer Ultra Shine in a role that gave him the ability to use those strengths daily.

One of our newest additions to the Ultra Shine team but no newbie to the cleaning industry, Marcelo is an Area Supervisor for Wurm’s, Ultra Shines’ California Region cleaning company. He may be a new addition to the Ultra Shine family but cleaning is in his blood. From following his Dad to work when he was younger cleaning private accounts to finding his way back to the cleaning industry a few years back, Marcelo has found his place to shine. As someone who can always be counted on and is up for any challenge, we know that he is ready for whatever can be thrown at him. I was told a story of Marcelo who acted as the guinea pig for Wurm’s test run of their first day time supervisor. A position created to relieve the office staff of these responsibilities, and what a success!  Ultra Shine’s journey into the US is sure to have its challenges but we know that Marcelo  is ready to grow and learn with the company as the Lead Area Supervisor. He is willing to shoot for the moon and see where he lands!
